social media

Technology has a major impact on everything in society whether you want to believe it or not. I'll be looking at the specific effects that different aspects of technology have on the way police carry out their investigations.

One of the major things that police use is social media. No matter if you have restrictions on who sees what you post the police can still access your posts through other people. All they have to do is ask the person, have them view your page and They have access to everything.  In an article on CNN they talked about one case that was solved by social media.

On August Tenth a judge ruled in a case that Melvin Colon lost all rights to privacy when he put it on social media. The suspected New York gang member posted public photos on Facebook that showed him flashing gang signs but made private more incriminating posts, including references to past violent crimes and threats against others.

He was being charged with murder and weapon and narcotic related crimes. This is one example of how the police used social media and technology to there advantage.
